ASSIGNMENT 1: STORYBOARD

This is the very first assignment I have completed as a part of the AICE Media Studies course. I made my very first storyboard using stock photos I found online, as well as an original story that I came up with.

I do not claim ownership for any of the photos used, and the websites responsible for these photographs and pictures are listed as well.

MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT STORY-WRITING

This is my first attempt at writing a story. I wrote a short narrative that leaned into aspects of fear and curiosity, simply titled, A Horror Story. I hope to improve my writing prowess as the course continues.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

I wrote a short essay on how the way films are made now are different to how they use to be made. I also state the differences that my partner and I would face if we were making our film back then.

"TARGET AUDIENCE SURVEY" RESULTS ANALYSIS

My partner and I created a survey that would help select our target audience, allowing us to build our movie and its opening around the results. The questionnaire had questioned that were on a Likert scale. It was up for several days on our social media accounts, and 18 people filled it out, 13 males and 5 females. The smaller amount of people is likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the social distancing restrictions, as we could not go around our school to spread the world of our survey.

16/18 of the people who took the questionnaire were aged from 15-16, which is good, as the main characters of our film are going to be around that age. 1/3 of people said that they are likely to watch a movie set in high school, with 1/6 as likely as not to do so, 1/6 unlikely to do so, and 1/18 unlikely. However, the person that said they were unlikely reached out to us and said that they meant to put very likely, which along with the very likely option's already 5/18 percent, shows that 1/3 of our participants are very likely to watch a film set in high school.

13/18 participants said that they either liked or loved Rap music, which is good, as the main song in our opening is going to be a rap song.

It is a little worrying though that 5/18 of the participants each voted for likely to watch a drama and as likely as not. However, the use of some comedic elements and charming characters could help to make the film more appealing to most other people.

1/2 of our participants voted that school was always stressful for them which is a good thing, as the core story of our film is going to be the anxiety that school brings to students, making it a relatable conflict.

11/18 said that they were neutral on montages in a film opening, though more people liked it than they disliked it, and no one hated them. Some loved it, but no one hated it, which still gives us a favorable result. We just need to keep the montage snappy, which we can do through the song that we choose to play, which should help because most people seemed to like/love rap music.
